HON. JUSTICE J. O. OWOLAWI

Biography

Hon. Justice Joseph Olukunle Owolawi was born on the 3rd day of April 1970. He is a native of Ile-Ife in the Ife East Local Government Area of Osun State. He attended St John’s Grammar School Ile-Ife and Government College, Ikorodu between 1982/1986 for his Secondary Education and Osun State College of Arts and Science Ile-Ife between 1988/1989 for his Post-Secondary Education. His lordship obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Law (LL.B. Hons) from the Lagos State University, Ojoo, Lagos, in 1994 and was called to the Nigerian Bar on the 14th day of March 1996. He served under N.Y.S.C. scheme in Ogun State between 1996/1997.

Prior to his appointment as a Magistrate, His Lordship worked with the Lagos Law firms of Kunle Hassan & Co. and Kole Oyedele & Co., between 1997/2000. He was appointed as a Magistrate Grade II on the 1st day of December, 2000. He rose through the ranks by dedication and handwork to become a Chief Magistrate Grade I on the 1st day of December, 2016. He served as Administrative Magistrate in various Magisterial Districts such as Ilesa, Ile-Ife, Iwo, Ikirun, Ede, Ibokun, Ifetedo and Gbongan. He served as Treasurer of the Magistrate Association of Nigeria (Osun State Chapter) between 2014/2018 and later the Vice Chairman between 2018/2020. His Lordship was promoted to the office of the Deputy Chief Registrar (Litigation) in the High Court of Justice, Osogbo on the 1st day of June 2020 and was later moved to the Department of Establishment in January, 2021. Justice Owolawi was elevated to the High Court bench on 6th February, 2023.

He is happily married with children and his hobbies include Reading, Travelling and Football.
