HON. JUSTICE M. O. AGBOOLA
Biography
The Honourable Justice Matthias Olusegun Agboola was born at Inisa, Odo-Otin Local Government of Osun State on 2nd August 1965. He attended the St. Augustine’s Primary School, Inisa for his primary school education (1972-1978), Ibadan Boys High School (1978-1982), Holy Trinity Grammar School, Ibadan(1982 -1983), Ibadan Grammar School, Ibadan (HSC, 1985 – 1986), University of Nigeria, Nsukka (LL.B, 1986-1990), Nigerian Law School, Lagos (B.L., 1990-1991), Nigeria Institute of Advanced Legal Studies, Lagos post-graduate certificate course in Legislative Drafting (1995), Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso (2008-2010) for Master of Public Admin (MPA) degree, and Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife(2010-2012) for his Master of Laws (LLM).
After his national service, His Lordship took up appointment as a Legal Officer in the Ministry of Justice where he served in various posts and ad hoc assignments until he resigned voluntarily as a Senior Legal Officer in June 1996 to form his private firm. His Lordship enjoyed a very robust private legal practice with a litigation bias and had many reported cases from the superior courts of record to his credit. He was appointed as part-time Chairman, Osun State Rent Tribunal from 2000-2003. Also while in practice, His Lordship served as the Secretary of the NBA, Osogbo Branch, 2002-2006 and was a founding member of Ikirun Branch as its first Treasurer, 2006-2008.
On 4th January, 2016, Hon. Justice Agboola was sworn in as a Judge of the High Court of the Gambia. While on the bench in the Gambia, His Lordship had the benefit of several aspects of judicial training by the Gambia Judicial Institute and European Union Access to Justice. On 19th October, 2019, Hon. Justice was sworn in as a Judge of the High Court of Osun State. Since his appointment, his Lordship has benefitted from several training programmes (physical and virtual) at the National Judicial Institute, Abuja. His Lordship has served at the Ilesa Judicial Division (overseeing Ifetedo Judicial Division) and was appointed as Presiding Judge in respect of anti-corruption cases in Osogbo Judicial Division since 2021.
He is married with children.
